Terry Pratchett · Discworld (Imaginary place) · 1992
In the beginning, there was a god Not just any god, but Om, the Great God He was a god of wisdom, justice, and righteousness
Or at least, that's what he was supposed to be In reality, Om was a bit of a letdown
He had been a great god once, with thousands of followers and a vast temple complex But that was a long time ago
Now, he was just a tortoise A small, rather dull tortoise, with a bad memory and a penchant for getting lost.
Brutha, a young novice, was the only one who could hear Om's voice And what a voice it was "Hey, you!" it said
Not exactly the most dignified or godlike greeting, but it was a start
Brutha was a simple boy, who wanted nothing more than to serve his god and do good in the world But Om had other plans
He wanted Brutha to help him get back to his former glory, to become the great god he once was.
Brutha was not like the other novices He was big and strong, with a round face and a gentle disposition He was also very, very stupid
Or so the other novices thought But Brutha was not stupid He was just... different
He had a way of looking at the world that was unique, a way of understanding things that others did not
And he had a special gift - he could hear the voice of Om.
The High Priest of the Great God Om was not a happy man
He was a large, fat man, with a face like a pig and a temperament to match
He did not like Brutha, and he did not like the fact that Brutha could hear the voice of Om
The High Priest had his own plans for the church, and they did not include a stupid novice and a has-been god.
The Inquisition was a powerful and feared organization They were the ones who rooted out heresy and punished those who did not believe in the Great God Om
They were also the ones who tortured people, just for the fun of it Brutha had a run-in with the Inquisition, and it was not a pleasant experience
They asked him questions, and they hurt him, and they made him wish he had never been born.
"I'd like it to stop now, please," Brutha said, his voice shaking with fear.
But the Inquisition did not stop. They just kept on going, asking their questions and causing their pain. And Brutha just lay there, wishing it would all end.
Brutha and Om set out on a journey, a journey to find the lost city of Omnia
It was a city of wonder, a city of magic, and a city of great beauty But it was also a city of danger, a city of uncertainty
Brutha and Om traveled through deserts and mountains, through forests and rivers They met all sorts of people, some friendly, some not so friendly.
As they journeyed, Brutha began to realize that Om was not just a god, but a symbol of something greater
He was a symbol of hope, of justice, and of freedom And Brutha was determined to help him, to help him become the great god he once was.
The lost city of Omnia was a place of wonder It was a city of golden spires and marble streets, of beautiful gardens and sparkling fountains
But it was also a city of secrets, a city of hidden dangers Brutha and Om explored the city, marveling at its beauty and its magic.
But they were not alone The High Priest and the Inquisition were also there, searching for Brutha and Om
They wanted to capture them, to punish them, and to destroy them
And Brutha and Om had to be careful, had to be clever, if they were going to survive.
The final confrontation was a dramatic one Brutha and Om faced off against the High Priest and the Inquisition
It was a battle of wits, a battle of courage, and a battle of faith
Brutha and Om were determined to win, to emerge victorious, and to bring justice to the world.
And in the end, they did They defeated the High Priest and the Inquisition, and they brought peace to the world
Om became the great god he once was, and Brutha became a hero
It was a happy ending, a satisfying ending, and a ending that would change the world forever.
